About this course

Chapter-by-chapter support for the new Grade 6 science curriculum: what burning needs, breathing, digestion and circulation, photosynthesis and water transport in plants, food chains in Egypt, and the properties of solutions and how they react with metals.

Academy-authored content and assessments – not an official exam.

Course highlights

  • Explain that burning needs a continuous supply of air (oxygen), describe how air moves through an open container, and compare the air before and after burning (less oxygen, more carbon dioxide)
  • Compare inhaled and exhaled air and describe the path of air to the lungs, where oxygen enters the blood and carbon dioxide leaves it
  • Trace the path of food through the digestive tract, show that saliva changes starch, and explain where nutrients and water are absorbed
  • Describe how the heart pumps blood around the body, measure pulse rate, explain the kidneys' role in cleaning the blood, and relate the main organs to each other
  • Show that leaves make starch in sunlight and that plants take in carbon dioxide and give out oxygen in light
  • Describe how water is taken up by the roots, carried through the stem and lost from the leaves (transpiration)
  • Build food chains starting from plants and explain how living things depend on water and air
  • Describe food chains of the Egyptian desert and of the Nile, and how human actions affect them
  • Classify solutions as acidic, neutral or alkaline with litmus, and show by evaporation whether a solid or a gas is dissolved
  • Describe how acidic solutions react with some metals and show that the solid left after evaporation is a new substance
  • Identify the fulcrum, effort and load of a lever, and use «weight × distance» to predict when a lever balances and how to lift a load with less force (t2, provisional)
  • Describe how electricity can be generated (hand generator, solar cell), stored and changed into light, heat and motion, and compare devices that use electricity efficiently (t2, provisional)
  • Describe how layers of rock form from deposited sand and mud, what fossils tell us, and how volcanoes and earthquakes change the land (t2, provisional)
  • Explain how human activities affect water, air and living things, and propose actions to protect the environment in Egypt (t2, provisional)
