Course highlights

• Apply divisibility rules, write prime factorisations, find the GCF and LCM (including by prime factorisation) and use the GCF to rewrite sums with the distributive property
• Use positive and negative numbers to describe real situations, place them on a number line, compare and order them, and find opposites and absolute values
• Evaluate powers and expressions with the order of operations; write, read and evaluate algebraic expressions; produce equivalent expressions
• Solve one-step equations, write equations for word problems, and write and graph simple inequalities
• Identify dependent and independent variables and represent their relationship with tables, rules and graphs
• Recognise statistical questions and display data with dot plots, histograms and box plots
• Calculate mean, median, mode, range and interquartile range and choose a suitable measure when there are outliers
• Multiply and divide fractions and mixed numbers, including modelling fraction ÷ whole number and fraction ÷ fraction
• Use ratio language, find equivalent ratios and solve ratio problems with tables and bar models
• Find unit rates, compare offers, and solve percentage problems (part, whole, percent)
• Plot points in all four quadrants, reflect points in the axes and find horizontal/vertical distances
• Find the area of parallelograms, triangles, trapezoids and composite shapes
• Use nets to find the surface area of prisms and find the volume of rectangular prisms, including fractional edges
