About this course

Support for Preparatory 1 mathematics: rational numbers, algebra and equations, statistics, angles and triangles, powers and roots, algebraic expressions, circles and cylinders, and probability.

Course highlights

  • Solve proportions and apply ratio and percentage (discount, profit, tax, proportional division); use set notation and set operations; operate on integers and rational numbers
  • Write and use formulas and expressions, simplify by collecting like terms, and solve linear equations in one variable, including word problems
  • Organise data in frequency tables, read and draw graphs (bar, pie), and compute mean, median and mode from data and tables
  • Use angle types and relations (incl. parallel lines), triangle and quadrilateral angle sums and properties, interior angles of polygons, and plot points in the coordinate plane
  • Apply the laws of integer exponents, evaluate square and cube roots of perfect squares/cubes and use scientific notation
  • Add, subtract and multiply algebraic expressions and solve linear inequalities
  • Compute the circumference and area of a circle and the volume of a cylinder
  • Describe sample spaces and compute theoretical and experimental probabilities of simple events
